What about bad behavior?

Now you might be thinking you’re more interested in stopping the bloodshed first and then worry about the tricks second. That’s okay. The key is to understand why your bird behaves the way he does. Birds don’t think like people, and many of the bad behaviors come from fear, particular aggressive behavior. He may be frightened of strange people and react with squawking and biting. He may scream if something startles him. He may also behave badly to receive attention from you, particularly if he’s not receiving enough mental stimulation each day. Did you know that parrots in captivity such as in zoos regularly partake in daily enrichment activities? This is because parrots need things to do. Without that stimulation and enrichment, bad behaviors can form. You can help prevent that with safe activities. One activity that you can easily incorporate into your day is to increase the opportunities for your bird to forage for food rather than just freely giving him food. Look for ways to safely “hide” food for him to find in his toys, in different containers, etc. so that he has to work to find it all. You can also use part of his daily food in your training time too. This is all one way to work his brain.
