Dear Parrot Lover,

Social Networking is Not Just for Humans

Missy’s blog entry: 2/1/2010 – Sunday drive: Mommy and Daddy took me for a drive yesterday and it was so much fun. I sat on Daddy’s shoulder and looked at everything going by and made lots of comments! And when we had to stop I complained, because I just wanted to keep on moving.

Missy is a two-year old Dusky Conure who lives with “ConureCrazy.” Her favorite foods are macaroni, pumpkins, apples, cornflakes and grapes. She loves playing with and demolishing wooden clothes pegs. She rates 7 out of 10 on the “Lazy to Active” scale.

She says she loves being with people, snuggling in her hanging birdie bed, drawing on paper with her beak and says a few words like “yes” and “you stupid.”

Enjoy thousands of profiles of owners (you can search for other bird owners using a wide range of parameters) and share videos and blogs. What a wonderful way to find out if other owners are having the same problems you are with your bird and to learn surprising things about your bird breed that you don’t already know.

There’s never a dull moment with so many funny bird videos and so many interesting blogs by birds and their owners. You can play games and join forums, or visit the health center to get the advice you need.

If you need one-on-one advice, you can drop a message to Cindy, the site’s resident pet expert. She was a pet groomer for 25 years and has been a surgical vet tech, but now maintains two pet blog sites. She has three horses, two dogs and eight cats (she must be an expert to manage a family like that!). She formed a rescue group several years ago after being
a volunteer Shelter Manager and a volunteer Humane Educator for the Humane society.

There’s a whole section of “How To” videos. For example, Zamzows Pet Room Manager Katie gives an introduction to Spanky, the Caique Parrot, and there are parrot training videos.

The Health Center is always open to help you out with health, behavior, care and nutrition concerns and needs. You’ll find tips like “How to Make a Pet First Aid Kit.” Now there’s something most of us don’t think about, but what a great idea to have a pet first aid kit that can be used to treat minor emergencies and to assist you and your pet in case a major emergency occurs.

And there’s Rainbow Bridge, a place for pets loved and lost. When an animal that has been close to a member of this global community dies, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge where there are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is
plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
